Join us for a self-indulgent weekend of yoga and nutrition.

Focusing on giving you time to relax, recharge those batteries and reset, this yoga and nutrition retreat is the perfect mini-break for you because you deserve a little TLC.

What better way to do this than in the scenic Peak District with yoga, meditation and healthy eating, not to mention the fresh air and open fires. Tempted? We promise it will be a weekend not to miss.

Your home for the weekend

Situated within the rolling hills of the Peak District National Park, The Cattle Shed is a luxurious contemporary converted barn.
It features an open plan lounge with a log-burning fireplace to cosy up in the evening and breathtaking views of the surrounding countryside to take in the sunsets.
You will be sleeping in a splendid room with either a kingsize or twin bed, complete with ensuite bathroom.
Most of the rooms are based on two sharing but don’t worry, 75% of people come on retreats on their own. Look at it as an opportunity to meet some like-minded individuals or why not bring along your bestie to share the experience with.
A small number of rooms are available on a single occupancy basis too.

Debs

The most un-yoga yogi you are likely to meet. I don’t hug trees (or not often) I love to drink wine, and generally don’t take life (including yoga) too seriously. Life is about finding your balance.
My philosophy is simple: treat others as you would hope to be treated. A smile costs nothing. Show up to the mat and practice as often as possible without judgement of yourself or others. Live for today as tomorrow is never guaranteed, and don’t forget to have fun along the way! Simple. My former life was as a costume designer for film and television and whilst I had some amazing jobs and incredible experiences something just seemed missing for me.

Having practiced yoga since university on and off I decided to embark on increasing my own knowledge and understanding of the practice. Not really sure if I would like to teach or not. There was never a lightning bolt moment. However, I am now a registered yoga alliance teacher holding qualifications with the Sivananda Vendata, Kerela, India (200hours), 280hr kids and partner yoga training with Rainbow Kids, and prenatal and postnatal yoga certificates with Birthright UK. I absolutely love teaching.

In the words of Marie Antoinette “let them eat cake”, which is fitting because I was once described as a nutritionist who is keeping it real.
I chose nutrition because I love food, yes, ironic I know, and I was also kind of narked with the diet and wellness industry being full of fads.
Local, honestly produced raw ingredients or “real food” is all we actually need to tick all the nutrition boxes, so I’m here flying the flag for fad-free, easy to stick to but science-based nutrition advice.
The majority of my work focuses on optimising wellbeing through food. Yes, it’s a fancy pants statement, but ultimately it just comes down to making you feel better through some clever food choices, supplements and a bit of private testing if required.
I hold talks that debunk diet myths and actually give you an idea of what the latest science is telling us. It’s nerdy but I do my best to add in terrible jokes.
During the summer months, you may catch me on stage at Food & Drink Festivals or Country Fairs, carrying out nutritious cookery demos.
I also write the odd recipe, magazine article and speak at conferences, all in the name of telling the world that nutrition is actually just about adding in more nutrients, not about going on a diet.
In case you got this far and wondering where my credentials come from, let me reassure you that I’m a fully qualified nutritionist and both BANT and CNHC registered/ accredited.

We set out to create the kind of retreat that we would want to attend.
A retreat that is relaxed, where you can enjoy a glass of wine (if it’s your thing) and where snacks are not banned.
A long weekend of relaxation, nutritious food and learning where you can do as little or as much as you wish.
There is a timetable of carefully curated activities but you are free to switch morning yoga for a lie-in if that’s what you’d prefer. It’s a long weekend that is yours to enjoy without pressure.

What’s included

  • 3 nights of luxury accommodation

  • Vegetarian breakfast, lunch, dinner and snacks deliciously prepared by BANT registered nutritionist Eva Humphries.
It’s veggie food but definitely not kale salads. We love flavoursome dishes, prioritise organic ingredients and you can expect an optional glass of wine with dinner.

  • Twice daily yoga classes, encompassing both dynamic and restorative practices, expertly led by Debs O’Brien. The yoga is aimed at beginners and experts alike and looks to introduce you to different styles throughout the long weekend.

  • Nutrition workshops focusing on realistic, actionable advice to help you feel awesome every day

  • Group walks

  • Free time to enjoy the surroundings, pick up a good book or just relax

The Peak District retreat has been running for 5 years now, so here is a little overview of what others have said:

The retreat was an amazing experience hosted by fantastic ladies that make you feel right at home. A perfect weekend to reset, relax and meet like-minded people.
A wonderful retreat which exceeded all expectations. The most delicious food, paired with great Yoga practice.
Thank you
I booked the retreat to escape the routine of being at home. I was looking forward to quality me time. I went with the intention of being happy with a class of yoga , not having to cook and time to read. I left feeling energised having eaten gorgeous nutritious food. I felt rested after so many yoga and meditation sessions. I felt that I had been away for longer than a weekend. I never read a book! I was too busy chatting, eating, enjoying yoga, walking in the beautiful countryside, drinking and catching up on much-needed sleep.

Frequently asked questions

Do you have to be good at yoga to attend?
No, not at all. In fact, we frequently welcome first-timers that have never even done yoga before.
Debs’ style of yoga prioritises your own individual needs.
It’s less about achieving the perfect pose and more about being present in the class, honouring what your body can do and progressing according to your own needs.
If you are ace at yoga, that’s totally cool, but it’s not a prerequisite.
We welcome yogis of all abilities.

I’m a bit hesitant about attending on my own. Do you have any advice?
We hear you but let us reassure you that many are in the same boat. In fact, over half of retreat attendees attend on their own.
Our retreats attract like-minded individuals so you’ll probably just end up making some new friends.

Do I have to share a room with someone I don’t know?
There are a couple of options:
1. You can opt for a single occupancy room. It costs a bit more but guarantees you an ensuite room with a kingsize bed.
2. You can share a twin ensuite room. Either bring a buddy to share with or if you are travelling alone then we’ll do our best to match you with someone of a similar age and interests (aka we’ll find you a new friend).

Do I have to stick to the timetable?
Not in the slightest.
We created a timetable of twice-daily yoga and nutrition workshops but you can do as much or as little as you wish.
We want you to have a weekend for you so if you’d rather have a lie-in than wake up for morning yoga then we are totally cool with this.

I have food allergies or specific dietary preferences, can you still cater for me?
Yes, but please give us sufficient notice.
Eva works closely with local, organic farms and some artisan producers to curate a menu that focuses on seasonal, high-quality produce.
Menus are usually put together 4 weeks prior to the retreat date so it’s essential that we know your dietary preferences in advance.
Please email eva@wholefoodwarrior.co.uk if you have specific allergies or dietary preferences.

What is the food like?
All of the food is curated and cooked by Eva. She is a nutritionist so you can expect perfectly balanced meals but with tonnes of flavour.
The menu is vegetarian and would typically entail:
- A pre-yoga morning smoothie
- A breakfast with at least 2 breakfast items. Typically a frittata and nourish bowl or a quinoa brunch bowl and a yogurt with fruit, nuts & seeds.
- Lunch is all about variety. Sharing salads and flavoursome sides dominate.
- Dinner is a 3-course affair. You can expect a nutritious starter, a seasonal main course and a healthy dessert.
Here is what one of the dinners looked like during the November 2022 retreat:
Starter: burrata - cucumber water - tomato - preserved wild garlic seed
Main: pan-roasted celeriac - charred red pepper sauce - seasonal greens - crispy anya potato
Dessert: silky chocolate tart

How can I get to the retreat venue?

Our beautiful venue is accessible by both car and train.
There is plenty of parking available.
Alternatively, connecting trains to Grindleford Station depart from both Sheffield and Manchester once an hour.
