Debs

The most un-yoga yogi you are likely to meet. I don’t hug trees (or not often) I love to drink wine, and generally don’t take life (including yoga) too seriously. Life is about finding your balance. My philosophy is simple: treat others as you would hope to be treated; A smile costs nothing; Show up to the mat and practice as often as possible without judgement of yourself or others; Live for today as tomorrow is never guaranteed; and don’t forget to have fun along the way! Simple. My former life was as a costume designer for film and television and whilst I had some amazing jobs and incredible experiences something just seemed missing for me.

Having practiced yoga since university on and off I decided to embark on increasing my own knowledge and understanding of the practice. Not really sure if I would like to teach or not. There was never a lightning bolt moment. However, I am now a registered yoga alliance teacher holding qualifications with the Sivananda Vendata, Kerela, India (200hours), 280hr kids and partner yoga training with Rainbow Kids, and prenatal and post-natal yoga certificates with Birthright UK. I absolutely love teaching.

In the words of Marie Antoinette “let them eat cake”, which is fitting because I was once described as a nutritionist who is keeping it real.
I chose nutrition because I love food, yes, ironic I know, and I was also kind of narked with the diet and wellness industry being full of fads.
Local, honestly produced raw ingredients or “real food” is all we actually need to tick all the nutrition boxes, so I’m here flying the flag for fad-free, easy-to-stick to but science-based nutrition advice.
The majority of my work focuses on optimising wellbeing through food. Yes, it’s a fancy pants statement, but ultimately it just comes down to making you feel better through some clever food choices, supplements and a bit of private testing if required.
I hold talks that debunk diet myths and actually give you an idea of what the latest science is telling us. It’s nerdy but I do my best to add in terrible jokes.
During the summer months, you may catch me on stage at Food & Drink Festivals or Country Fairs, carrying out nutritious cookery demos.
I also write the odd recipe and magazine article and speak at conferences, all in the name of telling the world that nutrition is actually just about adding in more nutrients, not about going on a diet.
In case you got this far and wondering where my credentials come from, let me reassure you that I’m a fully qualified nutritionist with an MSc in Clinical Nutrition and industry-specific accreditations.

Why these retreats

We set out to create the kind of retreat that we’d be happy to attend ourselves.
A retreat that is relaxed, where you can enjoy a glass of wine (if it’s your thing), where snacks are not banned and where you are free to switch your morning yoga for a lie-in if that’s what you need. The retreat is yours to enjoy without pressure.
Truthfully, back in 2019 when we first started, most retreats were either focused on a transformation and involved rigid rules or they entailed impossible yoga poses and a lot of time pretending on Instagram.
Neither of those were options we’d willingly attend or part with our hard-earned cash for.
We realised that our busy lives needed some space and time to slow down and recharge our batteries.
We just wanted to relax, have our meals taken care of and do some restorative yoga that was feasible to take part in.
To our surprise, a lot of you felt the same way so we now host a couple of retreats a year.
This October marked our 10th retreat in the Peak District. 😊

Frequently asked questions

  • No, not at all. In fact, we frequently welcome first-timers that have never even done yoga before.
Debs’ style of yoga prioritises your own individual needs.
It’s less about achieving the perfect pose and more about being present in the class, honouring what your body can do and progressing according to your own needs.
If you are ace at yoga, that’s totally cool, but it’s not a prerequisite.
We welcome yogis of all abilities.

  • Fly to Palma airport and grab a cab from there.
Our retreat venue is approximately 30 minutes from the airport.
We’ll do our best to coordinate arrivals so you’ll be able to share a taxi with others.
Taxis are plentiful in late September.

  • We hear you but let us reassure you that many are in the same boat.
In fact, around half of retreat attendees attend on their own.
Our retreats attract like-minded individuals so you'll probably just end up making some new friends.

  • There are a couple of options:
    1. You can opt for a single occupancy room. It costs a bit more but guarantees you a room with a double bed.
    2. You can share a twin room. Either bring a buddy to share with or if you are travelling alone then we’ll do our best to match you with someone of a similar age and interests (aka we’ll find you a new friend).

  • We can’t predict it, obviously, but generally, it’s a balmy 23 to 25 degrees C during the day with temperatures dropping to circa 18 degrees C in the evening.
We are, of course, hoping for plenty of sunshine. 🤞
